The most important certificates and standards for cargo and logistics companies in Germany
1. What are the ADSp 2017 and why do almost all freight forwarders use them?
The ADSp 2017 are the industry-wide recommended General Terms and Conditions for freight forwarding contracts in Germany (jointly created by DSLV, BGL, HDE, and others). They uniformly regulate liability, obligations, and procedures – over 90% of freight forwarders use them because they provide clear, balanced rules and significantly limit liability (e.g., max. 2 SDR/kg nationally instead of unlimited liability under HGB).
The CMR Convention applies to international road freight transport (pickup and delivery points in two different contracting states, at least one of which is a CMR member – almost all of Europe + some other countries). The most important rule: The carrier is liable without fault for loss, damage, or delay, but liability is limited to 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight (approximately 10–12 €/kg depending on the exchange rate) – except in cases of gross negligence.
For anyone who transports or stores medicinal products (human medicines) – mandatory EU-wide. Without GDP, no more pharmaceutical customers are possible.
HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a preventive risk management system designed to avoid hazards in the food chain. It is legally required throughout the EU (Regulation (EC) No 852/2004) and serves to ensure food hygiene and safety through the identification, evaluation, and control of critical points.
IFS Logistics is an international certification standard for logistics companies (transport, storage, handling) of food and non-food products. It builds on HACCP and additionally requires quality management, traceability, supply chain security, and customer specifications. It is almost always demanded by large retail chains (LEH) and brand manufacturers.
